Everyone starts somewhere. For us, we started at a local gymnasium holiday craft show December 2018. We had compiled and crafted quite a few seasonal items ranging from tree ornaments to gnomes and barn quilts to step ladders.
My husband and I have been remolding our house for some time now and I had at that point saved many odds and ends that I just knew we might be able to make into the perfect home decor items.
Well…my wonderful hubby only allows my project pile to get so big. When it starts to overflow into his work space, its either time to go or time for a project to be born. So what would it be? What inspiration could find in this pile of scrap wood and outdated hardware?

I had seen barn quilts hung high on the sides of barns and out buildings growing up in Oregon. They always showcased beautiful designs and colors. These barn quilts were always painted on plywood and often were very large. I thought to myself, what if instead of paining one how about piecing one together just as if I were quilting with fabric instead of wood.
This was the birth of our new niche. Hand cut, sanded, stained, and assembled barn quilts for both indoor and outdoor use. Our remodel meant that we replaced all the trim in our house so I had many ends of 1 x 4 pine wood lying around. My first quilt was a red and white hidden star that measured 12″ x 12″ and looks beautiful as part of my holiday mantel.

We didn’t end up selling this one at the show, but a woman that passed through our booth did love it and wanted to know if we did custom orders. We eagerly gave her a business card hoping that she would follow up on the inquiry. Eventually she did contact us and I started on my first 24″ x 24″ outside Autumn Blossom Barn Quilt.
Above are some of our process pictures. Since she made that first order, she has ordered 3 more quilts for friends. We have also made many different patterns and sizes since that first order and hope to showcase them here on our blog.
